Mangrove Tour in Langkawi

NOTE: This is a video post. So if you want to skip to the live-action, scroll to the bottom of the page and watch our incredible tour of the Mangroves in Langkawi.

Happy Valentine’s Day from the little Malaysian island of Langkawi! Well, technically we’re a day ahead so Valentine’s Day was yesterday for us (will tell your future for a small fee), but we thought we’d share a quick video of our romantic date on the salt-water swamp.

This Day of Love we decided to do something different and get up close and personal with nature. So after ‘breakfast-in-hammock’, we visited the Mangroves which were just a quick hop, skip and a jump away from our campsite (we had no idea, but it was pretty much in our backyard) so we took our scooter down to the dock and got a pretty sweet deal on a private tour for the 2 of us (RM180 or $40). Pricier than we normally would like, but it was a special occasion and it was definitely worth the money!

Tons of wildlife – fish, bats, sea eagles, and swimming monkeys… that’s right SWIMMING monkeys. Can you say adorable? Unfortunately due to the shrinking habitat, there are no longer any salt water crocodiles (there haven’t been for about 20 years, so we hear). Unfortunate for us, not so unfortunate for the swimming monkeys.

To keep things traditional, we also had a fresh seafood dinner at the fish farm/floating restaurant on our way back to the dock. And not Subway’s version of fresh – we literally picked our food from the water and had it cooked up for us. That’s a first! It felt a bit strange deciding which crab was to be sacrificed for our benefit… but we have no regrets. It was the best seafood we’ve ever tasted! We finished the day trying our luck at cooking our favorite noodles. We didn’t quite get the recipe right but the ocean view more than made up for it.

Overall, a perfect outing. I mean, every girl wants to touch fish and look at bats for Valentine’s Day, right? 🙂 Enjoy the show!
