When you think “outdoor gifts” you probably think of stores like REI, Cabelas and Backcountry – but how about Amazon? No? Sounds crazy? That’s what I thought.
BUT IT’S NOT CRAZY.
No, not at all. In fact, Amazon has a crazy amount of outdoor gifts and gear for either you or your favorite outdoor adventurer/loved one. And I don’t care how anti-big-business you claim to be, Amazon has free shipping – and I like that.
Typically I do most of my outdoor gear shopping at REI. Because I’m an REI member with an REI Mastercard [whoa, fancy!], I get 15% back to spend on future REI purchases. So I honestly never really thought to search Amazon for outdoor stuff. But then I thought – what about people who aren’t as fancy as me? [Jk.] People who shop on Amazon, for example?
So I did a thorough search through the Amazon inventory looking for my favorite outdoor gifts and gear and – let me tell ya – I struck gold! I had no idea how many sweet deals and quality brands they carried on their website!

1. UCO Mess Kit
These meal kit is a 4-in-1 with a fork, spoon, plate and bowl. I bought 2 of these [for Francis and me] and we use them on ALL of our car camping trips as well as backpacking trips. On backpacking trips, we pack only 1 mess kit for both of us [since it includes both a plate and a bowl] and we’re also able to pack our collapsible mug inside for morning, backcountry coffee. It’s perfect!
2. Solar Powered String Lights
I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to read any of my other posts, but if you have you probably noticed how obsessed I am with these solar string lights from Luci. They’re featured in a ton of my photos, a ton of my gear lists, and I even wrote a full gear review on them [which you can check out, here!]. They’re useful, reliable and just downright adorable.

There are SO many options for backpacking mattresses, but this Therm-a-rest mattress has stood the test of time and remains a favorite among backcountry campers. It’s easy to pack up, efficient at trapping heat, and weighs less than 1 lb.

I am a huge fan of Black Diamond headlamps and I know from experience, when they say waterproof – they mean it! I took my headlamp for it’s first real underwater test in a pitch-black sea cave in Thailand and, thankfully, it did not fail me! A terrifying experience made slightly less terrifying by my headlamp. 5. Ultralight Foldable Camp Chair
Foldable camp chairs typically cost anywhere from $90 – $150, so this chair is a STEAL at 1/3 [or less] of that price! Reviewers say this ultralight camp chair is actually better than the big-brand chairs at REI, so you aren’t sacrificing quality for price.
6. Portable Foldable Camp Table
This is one of those camping items that I tried and tried to avoid buying because it seemed unnecessary. But when I finally gave in, I had zero regrets! I love having a folding table around camp for meals, card games and morning coffee. It’s so much more useful than I ever thought it would be.
7. Inflatable Travel + Camp Pillow
An inflatable pillow that’s actually comfortable? Erm, yes please! This inflatable pillow is super popular among backpackers and car campers alike. Unlike other travel pillows it packs down super small and also has the added benefit of comfort [a.k.a. it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping on a balloon].
8. Lifestraw
A must-have for anybody who hikes, camps, or does basically anything outdoors. Lifestraw is an amazing and highly charitable company, and even their most basic filters can remove microplastics, bacteria and parasites. The filters kill 99.999999% of bacteria [like E. coli] and 99.999999% of parasites [like Giardia]. They’re pretty amazing!
9. PocketRocket Ultralight Camp Stove
This is the quickest, easiest way to cook up some grub without a campfire. There are a ton of campfire bans, especially in the summertime, to prevent forest fires – which means you’ll need an alternative way to heat up your food. The PocketRocket is a perfect solution to that problem!
10. 10-Piece Compact Camp Cookware Set
This cookware set has it all! A non stick pot, a non stick pan, a pot lid, 2 bowls, a spork, a soup spoon, a wooden cooking utensil, a cleaning sponge and a nylon carry case – and it all packs up nice and neat inside the pot!
11. Coleman Portable Camp Stove [for Car Campers]
For those car campers that are also gourmands, you may want to opt for a portable camp stove! With a portable stove, you can cook much larger quantities of food and can actually fry up real, fresh ingredients [if that’s your thing] instead of just rehydrated backpacking meals.
12. Natural Mosquito Repellent Balm
I am so, so excited about this product! I try to keep my use of chemicals to an absolute minimum – especially in the backcountry. But I’m also a mosquito magnet, which means I can’t exactly forego bug spray. It literally pains me every time I spray a can of “Off!” [sorry, Off] because of all the chemicals and the negative impact it could have on the environment, not to mention the terrible smell.
13. All-in-One Portable Boil and Brew French Press
Can’t go without your morning brew? No problem! This portable French press will brew you up the perfect cuppa Joe!
14. Adorable Roast ‘Em Marshmallow Sticks
So I know these aren’t exactly necessary, but darn it if they aren’t cute! These rotating roast ’em sticks will give you that perfect, all-over toasted marshmallow that you thought only existed in your dreams.
15. Inflatable Solar Lantern + Phone Charger
I loooove inflatable solar lanterns. They’re portable, durable, waterproof, solar-powered and now… they double as a phone charger! Or at least this one from LuminAid does. What a time to be alive!

Most camping hammocks are like $80 – $90 dollars by the time you finish buying the hammock, straps and carabiners – not this one! This highly rated hammock includes ALL the gear, can hold up to 400lbs and is less than $30.
17. Portable Power Bank
I will forever promote this portable power bank from RavPower. It comes along with me on every camping and backpacking trip and use it to charge my phone, Kindle and Bluetooth Speaker. I haven’t done a battery test on it, but it seems to last FOREVER and I often use it to charge 2 or 3 devices at once.
18. Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker
When you’re listening to music outdoors, you want a waterproof speaker – and preferably one with good sound. This Bluetooth Speaker has superior sound quality and can play on for up to 20 hours before needing recharged. BONUS: It comes in multiple colors!
19. Zippo Refillable Hand Warmers
Are you constantly sitting on your hands to warm them up? Do your loved ones shrink away from your touch or call you “Frosty”? Have I go the camping item for you! Zippo Hand Warmers are super effective and, unlike Hot Hands, it’s not a one and done type deal – it’s reusable!
